Kotrà (shortened form of cotrari) means "boys" in Calabrian and is often used to refer to friends. This is precisely the underlying theme of Giuseppe Dato's debut album. One of the brightest prospects on the Italian jazz scene, the young pianist (born in 1999) has already garnered numerous accolades and awards, as well as sharing the stage with some of Italy's most renowned jazz musicians. The album features five of the composer's compositions, interspersed with reinterpretations of Duke Ellington's Caravan, Hoagy Carmichael's Skylark, and an unexpected "Tu non mi basti mai" by Lucio Dalla. In addition to friends Alberto Zuanon and Francesco De Tuoni, on double bass and drums, respectively, Giuseppe is joined by a variety of guests on the various tracks: Simone Bortolami and Edoardo Cian (guitar), Antonio Macchia (flugelhorn), and the vocals of Alberto Forzan and Irene Lovato.
